First dive, Bahamas

I had no relation to diving before I went to the Bahamas. I went on a one week vacation to visit a Norwegian friend, who was also a diving instructor, and during the week I was persuaded to take diving certificate.
After the obligatory training on land, we went out to the open sea and I jumped in and swam over to a diving buoy.
I never imagined that it would be possible to get acrophobia by lying on the surface, but the water was so clear that it felt like I was hanging in midair and looked down at the ground.

After a few minutes I started the descent. When I first got down on the bottom I was immediately hooked on diving.
I have always loved the water and water sports, but I've always kept me on the surface with the idea that if I dove under the water and stared straight into the eyes of a fish I would have certainly drowned screaming.
So wrong I was.
I had a moray on one side of me and a baracuda on the other side and the only thing I felt for these animals was fascination.
I learn a lot about the underwater world this week and I believe that knowledge is the cure for fear.
For an example: Morays looks pretty scary when they swim toward you with a open mouth full of razor sharp teeth. But when I learned that they must swim with their mouths open to live, they were not as scary anymore:)

When I went home, I had a Padi open water certificate in my pocket and this vacation turned out to be the beginning of a passion for scuba diving. Since then I have dived in other countries and are currently working on an upgrade to advanced open water diver.
